MILKY WAY & STAR TRAILS CRANSFILL GAP, TX

There’s something magical about Cranfills Gap—where time stands still and the sky comes alive. Nestled in the heart of Texas, this quiet town is home to the iconic Rock Church, a stunning 19th-century stone chapel surrounded by rolling hills and wide-open skies. When night falls, the lack of city lights reveals a celestial masterpiece: the Milky Way stretching across the horizon and stars swirling in perfect trails above the steeple. It’s a dream location for photographers craving solitude, beauty, and a chance to capture the night sky with a foreground that feels like it’s from another era. If you’ve been searching for that one spot that combines history, charm, and jaw-dropping skies—you just found it.

TRIP DESCRIPTION

Ah, Cranfills Gap! A hidden gem in the heart of Texas Hill Country, where timeless charm meets the vast, star-studded sky. I'm excited to invite you on a truly magical night photography workshop—where we’ll capture the breathtaking beauty of the Milky Way and star trails against one of the most iconic foregrounds in Texas: the historic Rock Church.

This 19th-century stone chapel, nestled in quiet countryside, offers the perfect setting for astrophotography. With minimal light pollution and wide-open skies, Cranfills Gap becomes a stage for the stars to shine—and for you to capture them in all their glory. We’ll plan our timing around the new moon for the darkest skies possible, giving us the best chance to photograph the glowing core of the Milky Way and swirling star trails above the steeple.

We’ll cover everything from planning your shots with apps like PhotoPills, to camera settings, composition, and basic light painting techniques. Whether you're new to night photography or looking to refine your skills, this workshop will leave you inspired and equipped with stunning images.

The trip is limited to 6 photographers to ensure personalized guidance and plenty of space to shoot.
