TRIP DESCRIPTION

In photography, timing is everything—and spring in Yellowstone is one of the most exciting times to experience the park. As winter loosens its grip, Yellowstone comes alive with new life, dramatic wildlife encounters, and some of the best opportunities of the year to photograph bears.

Spring is when many photographers dream of visiting Yellowstone. Grizzlies emerge from hibernation, often with cubs and yearlings in tow, while black bears become increasingly active throughout the park. The Lamar and Hayden Valleys are among the best places in North America to photograph wildlife, offering opportunities to witness grizzlies, black bears, bison with their newborn calves—often called “red dogs”—wolves, pronghorn, coyotes, foxes, moose, and bighorn sheep in their natural environment.

Beyond the wildlife, Yellowstone’s landscapes are just as extraordinary. We’ll photograph the stunning Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, dramatic waterfalls, geothermal features, and iconic geysers. And of course, we’ll spend time photographing one of Yellowstone’s most breathtaking natural wonders—Grand Prismatic Spring, where vibrant colors, steam, and changing light create unforgettable images.

Spring in Yellowstone is wild, unpredictable, and full of possibility—making it one of the most rewarding times of year for wildlife and nature photographers.

Expect warm pleasant days with cold mornings and nights. The weather can prove unpredictable in Yellowstone / Grand Tetons and can change on a moment’s notice. Remember some of the best photographs are made before, during and immediately after a storm cycle. There is no such thing as bad weather just poor layering and gear choices – please plan accordingly!    Make sure you are prepared for rain and snow!

Day 1 Travel Day

Dinner will be provided

If flying, arrive in Bozeman, MT by 2:00pm. We will be traveling to Gardiner, Montana for a meet and greet dinner. We will also be going over gear and the itinerary.

Day 2 ( B,L,D)

We will begin with an early in the morning at Mammoth Hot Spring. exploring the hot springs while looking for wildlife along the way. We will be making our way to Lamar Valley to start looking for wildlife ending our day in Mammoth photographing wildlife and hopefully a sunset if weather permits.

Day 3 ( B,L,D)

We will have another early morning departure to start making our way to Old Faithful and the Grand Prismatic. Along with way we will be stopping to explore the many geysers including Fire Hole and take a walk on some of the boardwalks. Of course if we see wildlife we will be stopping to photograph them.

Day 4 ( B, L,D)

Once again we will head out early for our morning sunrise, as we start to make our way to the Upper and Lower Falls of Yellowstone. This is also know as the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. We will always be on the look out for wildlife to photograph as we travel to Hayden Valley and Fishing Bridge.

Day 5 ( B, L, D)

We’ll get started early on our first morning, setting off pre-dawn to set up for an iconic sunrise location. We will then start looking for wildlife. In the Spring we’ll be at the Park during calving season, so wildlife like grizzly bear, black bear, elk, bison, and pronghorn, among others, should be quite active.

Day 6 (B)

This is our last day and we will be getting up to catch the sunrise at Mammoth.  We will be photographing the wildlife and the landscape of Mammoth that morning.  This is a great area for sunrise photography.  We will be making our way back to Gardner to check out and get breakfast.  We will be leaving to make our way back to Bozman, MT. by 1pm for you to catch your flights.
